Summer Workshops FAQs

On-Campus Workshops FAQ

Q: What workshops are you offering on-campus?

A: This summer, we are glad to say that we are returning to some on-campus programming. The following workshops will be held on our campus in White River Junction Vermont:

Q: What times will the workshops run daily?

A: Workshops will generally run from 9:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Instructors will let students know about variations in the schedule.

Q: Where can I find a supply list?

A: Supply lists for each workshop are included on their respective workshop page to be posted soon.

Q: What are your on-campus Covid-19 protocols?

A: In response to the pandemic, CCS has implemented safety policies and teaching protocols that meet and exceed best practices prescribed by the CDC and Vermont’s Department of Health. These policies are designed to:

1)    maintain the safest possible environment for everyone on campus,

2)    comply with public health advisories, and

3)    enable CCS to deliver its programs with the least possible disruption.

As best practices for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic evolve, we update these policies to reflect new health authority advisories, scientific advances, and government policies. As the pandemic has proven, it is important to remain flexible.

REQUIREMENTS OF STUDENTS, STAFF, AND FACULTY

All students, staff, and faculty must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to their arrival on campus or proof of negative test taken prior to the workshop’s Monday orientation

While indoors KN-95, KF94, or N-95 masks (without valves), or a 3-ply surgical mask paired with a cloth mask must be worn by everyone on campus at all times.

WHAT TESTS ARE ACCEPTED?

Unvaccinated guests must show a negative COVID-19 PCR or LAMP test within 48 hours of the start of class, or two (2) at-home or rapid test results taken 24 hours prior, and on the day of, Monday orientation.

HOW DO I SHOW PROOF OF NEGATIVE PCR OR LAMP TEST?

Please come with a digital or print copy of your negative results and be prepared to show a staff member at the Monday registration table.

PLEASE RESPECT THE RULES

We are committed to following national and local guidelines for safety while providing the best guest experience for your visit, and we prioritize the health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and the community. These policies are subject to change as national and local guidelines are updated. Guests assume their own risk by entering campus buildings. If you are registering someone else, it is the responsibility of the purchaser to communicate these rules to the student. Together, our efforts will create a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Q: Where can I find accommodations?

A: The Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction, Vermont, is right across the street from The Center for Cartoon Studies and offers reduced rates for summer workshop students. Call to inquire. There is also a Holiday Inn, Fairfield Inn & Suites, and Comfort Inn under a 1 mile driving distance of the school.

Q: How can I travel to town?

A: For those driving, White River Junction sits at the intersection of I-89 and I-91. The town also has an Amtrak stop with a daily train arriving on the “Vermonter” line. Several bus lines exist, including a Greyhound stop, and the Dartmouth Coach, which has stops in Boston and NYC, and goes up to Hanover, NH. For air travel, some opt to fly into Boston Logan and take the Dartmouth Coach to the Upper Valley, or to fly into Manchester Airport in New Hampshire. There is also the Lebanon Municipal Airport, which offers flights through Cape Air. We do not recommend flying into the Burlington Airport, unless you are able to rent a car, as public transportation from Burlington to White River Junction is limited.

Q: Can I be added to a waitlist?

A: Yes, to be added to a waitlist, email registration@cartoonstudies.org and specify which class you are interested in.

Online Workshops FAQ

Q: What workshops are you offering online?

A: This summer, we are offering the following workshops virtually:

Q: These workshops are fully online?

A: Yes! These workshops will be entirely online, using Zoom as the host platform for classes.

Q: What size are the classes

A: All classes are between 12 and 14 students.

Q: What time will classes be held?

A: Color for Comics will be held from 11am – 5pm EST, Monday to Friday. Cartoon Studio will be held from 12pm-6pm EST Monday to Friday.

Q: Is it possible to take the classes asynchronously?

A: Our classes will be held synchronously and will not be recorded. We believe that our workshops are at their best when held in real-time to foster relationships between classmates and instructors, and provide more engaged feedback in lectures, class workshops, and assignments.

Q: Where can I find a supply list?

A: Supply lists for each workshop are included on their respective workshop page to be posted soon.

Q: How do I prepare for class online?

A: Our guide for Digital Best Practices can be found here, but our general recommendation is to spend some time familiarizing yourself with Zoom and ensuring that you have a stable internet connection. We’ll also be offering an opportunity for a tech test a week prior to the workshop date for those who want a practice run with zoom and to make sure they feel comfortable with their setup.

Q: Why do I need a Google account for class?

A: We use Google Sites to create a landing page for each workshop that includes the zoom link, the course schedule, and daily assignments. Students will also use Google Drive to Upload and Download materials for work and review. If you do not have a Google account, you can set one up by following these steps.

Q: If I live in New England, can I come visit campus during the workshops?

A: Yes, current guidelines permitted, if you are interested in visiting campus during your workshop, please call or email us at info@cartoonstudies.org to make an appointment. We also ask that you review our on-campus Covid-19 Protocols before planning a trip.

Q: Can I be added to a waitlist?

A: Yes, to be added to a waitlist, email registration@cartoonstudies.org and specify which class you are interested in.
