Either Adobe Photoshop OR Clip Studio Paint (full and updated PC/MAC versions) – coloring exercises can be conducted in either one and will be supported simultaneously (If you choose to use tablet versions or other coloring programs, your professor may not be able to offer technical or instructional support!)
This course with CCS faculty Kori Michele Handwerker is a deep dive into how color is used in comics and an opportunity to develop methods for enhancing your comics storytelling and design with color. Through lectures, demos, readings, discussions, and hands-on comic color exercises, we will ramp up your practical comics coloring toolbox! To accommodate the remote format, we will work with digital tools to exercise our color in comics-making, but the conceptual color tools we learn will be applicable to any medium you choose to pursue your comics coloring with!
This isn’t a how-to-draw-comics course, and you don’t need to be an advanced cartoonist to explore color study with us. All levels of comics experience welcome.
Workshops run from 11am-5pm ET with the exception on Cartoon Studio which runs 12pm-6pm ET. While it might be possible for work while attending some workshops, it’s not generally recommended since many workshops include studio projects to be worked on outside of the workshop hours.
